Thank u, next; a workshop on refinding success is a workshop and sharing session, looking at how to prioritise ourselves within our art practices. It’s about putting personal contentment over professional commitment.
Basically I’m tired of going to openings and hearing everyone talk about how tired they are. myself included. We have all become our own ‘unpaid interns’, chasing an ever ‘elusive’ notion of what being a successful artist looks like. We feel we have to say yes to everything (because there’s so little to go round), forcing ourselves to burn out before our time. I’ve always felt a bit of a dischord between the value placed upon us by institutions, modelled to us in art school, and the value I feel in my heart. In this workshop we will ‘re-think’ what it means to be a successful artist. I will share my own experiences and tips on managing my emotional resources; facilitating group discussions and activities, which end in a guided meditation. The aim is to have a nice time, and remind each other that it's ok to put emotional needs at the core of our practice. Person first, artist second, always. <3
