Tending to Grief in collaboration with Chris Alton
Comissioned by At The Library.

A workshop where people explore the notion of ‘tending to grief’; paying attention to grief and caring for it, much like you would a garden. We explore this through conversation, creative writing exercises, and creating posters through solar printing. The solar prints involve a combination of letters and images; the images made from plants and leaves etc found during a shared walk in nature. This allowed moments for reflection, conversation as well as mindful observation. The shared activity of walking and creating art acts as a ‘softner’ for difficult conversations, and alternative ways of looking at an emotional experience through activity and tactile experience.

In order to facilitate this workshop, we’ve both undertaken specialist training (Mental Health First Aid and Counselling Skills). We have also worked closely with an access consultant to understand how we can facilitate both our own needs, and the needs of participants before and after the sessions.
