︎ Banners and Flags ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎︎
I love facilitating sewing-based workshops - making banners, flags, bunting, and other decorative textiles. These workshops can be tailored for all ages and skill levels, from no-sew activities to embroidery and machine sewing.
I adapt each session to suit the group, whether it’s LGBTQ+ youth groups, mental health service users, neurodiverse teenagers, toddlers, school pupils, or Fine Art university students. The workshop is for everyone, and I enjoy shaping it to match the interests and abilities of each group.
I guide participants through a step-by-step design process. Sometimes we explore natural print-making techniques, like flower hammering and using natural stains. Other times, we jump straight into sewing - using appliqué, hand embroidery, or machine stitching.
The banner themes depend on the group’s needs and interests. Past sessions have included topics like protest, local identity, nature and conservation, queer history, or simply celebrating the things we love.
This workshop can run as a one-off event or as a series of sessions building toward a larger collaborative banner.
